Ranchi: Municipal commissioner Sushant Gaurav on Friday ordered the immediate preparation of a special action plan to restore and conserve three major water bodies in Ward 14 after a detailed field inspection of Gosai, Hatia and Chambotha ponds.During the visit, Gaurav assessed their environmental significance, holding capacity, cleanliness and encroachment status. He said, “The city’s ponds and other water bodies are crucial for maintaining environmental balance, groundwater recharge, and rainwater harvesting, and serve as key elements in addressing urban waterlogging issues. Their conservation and rejuvenation are crucial for present and future generations.”Warning of firm action against polluters and encroachers, he directed all departments to prepare a time-bound rejuvenation and conservation plan and ensure its effective implementation. For the 5.78-acre Gosai pond, a joint team, led by additional municipal commissioner Sanjay Kumar, will investigate suspected encroachments. Authorities will match zonal survey reports with drone mapping data, while nearby property owners must submit land and building documents before the additional municipal commissioner’s Special Court. Unauthorised structures will then be removed for engineering development and beautification.At the 6.29-acre Hatia pond, also known as Chhath pond, Gaurav ordered immediate removal of identified encroachments and strict penalties for solid or liquid waste dumping. He also directed relocation of a nearby water supply tank and mini-HYDT, along with regular and special cleaning drives.At 1.30-acre Chambotha pond, the Town Planning Wing will audit neighbouring building permits, while the Engineering Wing will design a public access route, boundary wall and civil works.
