Ranchi: The district administration has directed political parties, social organisations, institutions and citizens to obtain prior permission before organising protests, demonstrations, processions, rallies or meetings in public places, citing law and order, public safety and traffic management. The order, issued on Sunday, came after tensions during Friday’s protest march by the JPSC-JSSC Reform Manch. A communiqué said programmes were being held without informing the authorities, causing traffic snarls and inconvenience to commuters.Organisers must provide the route, date, start and end timings, expected turnout and, where required, prominent participants. This will help officials make security and traffic arrangements. The administration warned against unauthorised road blockades or activities affecting public safety and citizens’ rights. It urged students and residents to verify a programme’s legal status before participating and avoid rumours.Officials said the permission requirement was not intended to curb peaceful activity, but to ensure safety, order and smooth traffic.
