Mohali: In a major development in the murder case of Kabaddi promoter Kanwar Digvijay Singh alias Rana Balachauria, Mohali Police filed a 350-page chargesheet against eight accused in the court of duty magistrate, Judge Sangam Kaushal.The accused named in the chargesheet include Jugraj Singh, Ashdeep, Mandeep Singh alias Mota, Gagandeep Singh, Akashdeep, Tarandeep, Davinder alias Tikka (a taxi driver) and alleged shooter Karan Pathak. Police booked the accused under various sections, including murder, and cited around 55 witnesses in support of the prosecution case. Additionally, arrest warrants were issued against five absconding accused — shooter Aditya Kapoor, gangster Baljinder alias Doni Bal, Arvinder Singh, Jashdeep and Arvinderjit alias Mani. Police also stated that a youth named Midhi, linked to the case, was killed in an encounter during investigation.The incident took place during a four-day Kabaddi tournament organised in Sohana. On the day of the incident, accused Karan Pathak, along with Akashdeep, Tarandeep and Aditya Kapoor, reached the venue and approached Rana Balachauria on the pretext of taking a selfie. Moments later, they allegedly shot him in the head and fled. Rana Balachauria was rushed to a private hospital in Mohali, where he succumbed to injuries. Police recovered empty shells from the spot, which became crucial evidence in the case. Sources revealed that Punjabi singer Mankirt Aulakh was also scheduled to attend the Kabaddi event later, as the tournament organiser reportedly shared close ties with him. Who Was Rana Balachauria? Rana Balachauria or Kanwar Digvijay Singh, was a well-known Kabaddi promoter who organised matches and facilitated players’ participation. He was also associated with acting. Balachauria, who originally belonged to Balachaur village, got married just about 10 days prior to the incident. BOX: Bambiha gang claims responsibilityIn a controversial development, Bambiha gang claimed responsibility for the killing through a social media post which said the murder was carried out to avenge the killing of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala. The gang members, including Baljinder alias Doni Bal and others, claimed that Rana Balachauria had links with rival gangs and had allegedly provided assistance to those involved in Moosewala’s murder.
