Srinagar, Mar 26: Ram Navami was celebrated with religious fervour across Srinagar on Thursday, with a Shobha Yatra carried out by the Kashmiri Pandit community amid tight security arrangements.

The procession commenced from the Kathleshwar Temple in Tankipora and traversed through several areas, including Habbakadal, Ganpathyar, Barbar Shah, Regal Chowk, Lal Chowk, Hari Singh High Street, and Jahangir Chowk. Participants, including children, women, and the elderly, dressed in traditional attire and sang hymns and bhajans along the route.

For the first time in 36 years, special prayers were also held at the Raghunath Temple in Fateh Kadal, which was recently reopened for devotees following a complete renovation carried out by the Tourism Department under the Smart City Limited initiative. Special prayers were also offered at Durga Nag Mandir, Kathleshwar Mandir, Habbakadal, and the Hanuman Mandir on Hari Singh High Street.

Participants noted that the Shobha Yatra has been held annually in Srinagar for nearly two decades to mark the birth anniversary of Maryada Purushottam Bhagwan Shri Ram, with the occasion observed through special prayers and the procession.

Adequate security and traffic arrangements were put in place to ensure the smooth conduct of the event. Personnel from the Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were deployed along the route from early morning, and traffic was temporarily suspended to allow hassle-free passage for devotees.

Earlier, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah extended greetings to the people on the occasion of Ram Navami, wishing peace, prosperity, and well-being across Jammu and Kashmir.
