Students and villagers on Thursday locked the government higher secondary school in Alwar district’s Jodhwas to protest against its dilapidated buildings and shortage of teachers, officials said.
The protest began around 7 am and continued till 6 pm, education department officials said.

A slab from the roof of one of the buildings fell on Wednesday, though no students were present at the time, villagers said and added that five of the six sanctioned senior teacher posts are also vacant.
Two school buildings have already been declared unsafe but are yet to be demolished, they said.
The incident triggered anger among students and villagers, who said 174 students are enrolled in the school, but only three classrooms are available. They also complained that water leaks from classroom roofs during rains.

Villagers said four years have passed since the school was upgraded to the higher secondary level, but lecturer posts have not been sanctioned yet.
Additional Chief Block Education Officer Gaurav Addania and Chief Block Education Officer Shakuntala Yadav reached the school and persuaded the protesters to call off the agitation. However, the students and villagers remained firm on their demands.
Chief District Education Officer Mahesh Gupta and Additional District Education Officer Gajraj also reached the spot and held talks with the protesters.

Gupta said seven teachers have been temporarily posted at the school in view of the shortage.
A proposal regarding the school building has also been sent to the Additional District Project Coordinator, Samagra Shiksha, he said.
The students and villagers have demanded immediate demolition of the dilapidated building and filling of vacant teacher posts.
