Hisar: Fatehabad sadar police have arrested a Rajasthan resident for allegedly defrauding a local family of ₹7.3 lakh on the pretext of securing a work visa and employment in Georgia for a youth.The arrested accused, Gurpreet from Mehrana village in Rajasthan’s Hanumangarh district, will be produced before a local court, said an official from the Economic Offences Investigation Branch (EOIB).The arrest follows a complaint filed by Surjit, a resident of Bhuthan Khurd village, who stated that Gurpreet approached his son Pankaj with promises of overseas employment through his contacts, quoting an estimated cost of ₹4.5 lakh per person including airfare.Surjit subsequently transferred a total of ₹7,35,500 to the accused across multiple transactions using digital payment platforms, including UPI.Following a preliminary investigation by the Fatehabad EOIB, police registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Sadar Fatehabad Police Station on June 9.Officials stated that further investigation is underway to determine the full extent of the scam and trace other individuals who may be involved in the racket.
