JAIPUR: Rajasthan High Court has directed Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) to reinstall within one week a gate allegedly broken by unknown persons on the road leading to a cremation ground near Rail Nagar Colony in Jaipur.Gates were installed on the approach road from TN Mishra Marg through Rail Nagar Colony to protect the cremation ground from encroachment and allow funeral processions access. Amicus Curiae Akhil Simlote told the court unknown persons damaged one gate, amid opposition to processions passing through the area and they want boundary walls. During the hearing, the court was informed that the dispute involved two societies, Swami Vihar and Rail Nagar, over the opening of gates on the road leading to the cremation ground.A division bench of Justice Inderjeet Singh and Justice Sandeep Taneja passed the order on Aug 17 while hearing a contempt petition concerning public access to the cremation ground. The court also directed Secretary, JDA, to submit a compliance report by the next hearing on Aug 24.“We direct the Secretary, JDA to install the gate which has been broken by some unknown persons within a period of one week and submit the report with regard to installation of the gate at cremation ground on the road approaching from TN Mishra Marg through Rail Nagar Colony, on the next date of hearing,” the bench said. The contempt proceedings arise from High Court’s earlier order dated Aug 11, 2025, in which it had directed JDA to install proper gates and ensure convenient access for the public. The court had noted that several residential colonies had developed around the cremation ground and that more than one entrance would be appropriate.JDA had earlier filed an affidavit stating that, pursuant to the court’s directions, it had opened a small gate measuring 4 feet and a big gate measuring 10 feet from the Swami Vihar side. It also stated that one entrance from the Rail Nagar side was already available, making two entrances accessible to the cremation ground.High Court has now asked JDA to restore the damaged gate and place its compliance report before the bench on the next date of hearing.
