Jaipur: Deputy Chief Minister and Transport minister Prem Chand Bairwa Friday told the Rajasthan Assembly that, in 2025, police issued 27.61 lakh challans across Rajasthan for various traffic violations. “This reflects our seriousness in enforcing road safety norms,” he said.Replying to supplementary questions raised by MLA Kalpana Devi during Question Hour, Bairwa said he informed the House that the challans included 12.06 lakh cases of over-speeding, 5.23 lakh for not wearing helmets, 1.96 lakh for not wearing seat belts, and 69,000 for drunken driving. “Compared to 2024, 10.13 lakh more challans were issued in 2025. This shows that enforcement intensified,” he said. The transport department separately issued 6.95 lakh challans during the year.Emphasising institutional measures, Bairwa said that under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, road safety committees were constituted at multiple levels. “At the district level, the Road Safety Committee, chaired by the district collector, reviews accident-prone areas and safety concerns in regular meetings,” he said. He added that sub-divisional committees under the sub-divisional officer address local traffic management and accident prevention issues.
