Nagpur: Residents of Raj Nagar, one of Nagpur’s prominent localities, have expressed strong resentment after a minor spell of rain caused water to enter several houses. Notably, residence where Sri Sri Ravi Shankar stays during his visits to Nagpur was also inundated with a large amount of rainwater, raising serious concerns about NMC functioning.Raj Nagar resident Ajay Mrig said NMC had floated two tenders to resolve waterlogging issue. Instead of improving the situation, the problem has become even more severe. He claimed earlier, water entered houses only during extremely heavy rainfall, but this time even a light shower was enough to flood homes, indicating failure of works executed.Vijay Nayudu, president of NMC Contractors Welfare Association, said he had repeatedly explained technical solution to the problem to executive engineer Sunil Uikey, but the suggestions were not acted upon. According to him, in NMC files are merely processed and superficial work is carried out without addressing the root cause of the problem. He alleged that the work required for a permanent solution has not been undertaken.Residents questioned how, despite repeated civic works and spending public money, a posh locality like Raj Nagar could face flooding from such a small amount of rainfall. They have demanded independent technical probe into works executed, accountability of concerned officials/agencies, and immediate implementation of a permanent solution to the recurring waterlogging problem.
