Ahmedabad: Over the past three years, AMC has spent Rs 1 crore on Vastrapur to lay new stormwater lines and desilt old ones to prevent rain-triggered flooding, but waterlogging after Monday’s rain belied the expense and works.Monday’s rain submerged the stretch from Himalaya Mall to Sanjivani Hospital Road, Govt Quarters Road, Manav Mandir, and adjacent streets.In Aug 2023, AMC’s standing committee approved a proposal to lay new stormwater lines at over 10 spots in Bodakdev ward (North West Zone).These chronically flood-prone spots include the Helmet Circle to Himalaya Mall stretch and Vastrapur Govt Quarters Road.The plan entailed laying new branch channels of stormwater lines across Bodakdev ward and connecting them to the main stormwater trunk line running from Parth Indraprastha Tower in Vastrapur to Ahmedabad Nexus One Mall junction.The standing committee had sanctioned Rs 31.5 lakh to lay smaller stormwater lines at various locations in Bodakdev ward and integrate them into the trunk line.The proposal placed before the committee stated: “Govt Quarters Road in Vastrapur, under Bodakdev ward, currently lacks a dedicated stormwater network.” At present, the proposal said, catchpits on this road are connected directly to drainage lines.
