Chennai: Rain activity is likely to continue in Chennai and neighbouring districts over the next few days, even as a low-pressure area has formed over the north Andaman Sea and neighbourhood on Saturday evening. The system is likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a depression over the east-central Bay on Sep 21 and a deep depression over the west-central Bay on Sept 22, before reaching near the south Odisha-north Andhra Pradesh coasts around Sept 23.For Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram and Chengelpet, the IMD has forecast moderate rain at a few places on Sept 20-22, followed by light to moderate rain at isolated places from Sept 23 to 25. On Sunday, Sept 20, Chennai may record light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and lightning in some areas during the evening and night, with temperatures of 36°C-37°C and 26°C-27°C.The rain is being supported by a north-south trough extending from north coastal Andhra Pradesh to the Gulf of Mannar across Tamil Nadu at lower levels.
