Pune: Parts of the city got very light, fleeting showers on Wednesday evening though no official rainfall was recorded at any IMD observatories or automatic weather stations.Cloudy skies prevailed around noon. Residents across pockets in the city reported drizzle-like conditions, but the showers were too insignificant to be measured by India Meteorological Department (IMD) instruments.S D Sanap, scientist at IMD, said, “No observatory or automatic weather station recorded rainfall though it was reported in parts of the city. It was too low to be captured, but we understand from public feedback that it did drizzle in some areas.”He attributed the conditions to a trough in the easterlies combined with local weather factors. “There is a trough in the easterlies, leading to moisture incursion over the region. Along with daytime heating, this created favourable conditions for such isolated, very light showers,” Sanap said.According to the IMD’s local forecast for Pune and surrounding areas, thundercloud development with lightning and very light rain is likely on Thursday. It said clear skies could turn partly cloudy towards afternoon or evening. Day temperatures are expected to remain around 34–36°C over the next few days, with minimum temperatures hovering around 18–21°C. From Friday onwards, the weather is expected to be mainly clear, with no rainfall indicated in the forecast till March 24.
