Ranchi: Heavy rain on Saturday damaged a section of the ceiling at the district registry office, with part of the false ceiling collapsing in the computer cell and falling on computers and printers.The incident occurred while the office was functioning. As the ceiling began to give way, people present in the affected section were evacuated. No one was injured.District sub-registrar Dilip Kumar Singh said the false ceiling had been opened for renovation work and that a portion of it had become loose. “No one came to fix it before the rain. Water seeped through the loose section, eventually causing the ceiling to collapse,” he said.Officials said the collapsed portion fell directly on computers and printers kept in the cell, damaging the equipment. The extent of the damage will be assessed.Officials said the affected section would be inspected before work resumes, and the remaining portions of the ceiling would also be checked for safety.
