A final-year student has filled in the civil services form three times. Each year, she closes the tab before paying the fee. Her fear is simple and heavy: what if she prepares for two years and still does not clear it?Arjuna asks almost the same question in Chapter 6 of the Bhagavad Gita. What happens, he wants to know, to someone who sets out on a spiritual path and falls short? Does that person end up with nothing, like a scattered cloud? Krishna’s reply in Verse 40 is warm and firm. No one who does good, he says, ever ends badly, in this world or the next.
Arjuna’s Fear Was Practical
He was not asking about grand theory. He worried about losing worldly life and spiritual gain at the same time. Many people carry that same worry. You can lose both by leaving a stable job for a startup. It’s risky.
Sincere Effort Leaves A Mark
Krishna’s answer implies that sincere effort is never wasted. Two years of preparation build discipline and a far wider understanding of how the country works.Even if the result disappoints, those gains remain. They often open other doors, sometimes unexpected ones.
Kalyana-Krit Means One Who Does Good
The phrase describes someone acting with good intent. Krishna’s promise attaches to that intention and the effort behind it.So the question changes shape. Instead of asking whether success is certain, ask whether the attempt is honest.
Fear Grows in the Waiting
Every year the form stays unsubmitted, the fear gets a little bigger. Delay simply gives it more room.Set one small commitment with a date. Pay the fee. Order the first book. Action tends to shrink fear faster than reassurance does.
Failure Is Rarely Final
Krishna goes on to say that the one who fell short is born again in favourable conditions and continues from where they stopped. In everyday terms, progress carries forward.A failed first driving test usually makes the second attempt calmer and more careful.
The Form Finally Goes In
Verse 40 of Chapter 6 rules out the idea that honest effort could ever be a total loss. That thought alone can lift a good deal of fear. The student paid the fee in February. Her first mock test score was low, and she pinned it above her desk as a starting line.
