Bengaluru: A 24-year-old woman’s death that initially appeared to be a suicide took a turn after a post-mortem examination revealed that she had been murdered, leading police to arrest a man from Assam.Munnadas, 28, who lived at Naganathapura and worked as an assistant at a shop, was arrested near Rayasandra Wednesday. The deceased has been identified as Champadas.According to police, during his latest visit to Assam, Munnadas met Champadas, who had been known to him for the last few years. He had persuaded her to come to the city with him, and since then, they had stayed in a rented house. Champadas was married and had children but was separated from her husband. Munnadas is also married and has children.The two agreed to live together. Munnadas would regularly talk to his wife and children. He was on a call with his wife on Aug 30 when Champadas got into an argument with him, saying she had left her husband and children for him, but he was giving importance to his wife.During the quarrel, Munnadas allegedly lost his temper, assaulted and strangled her to death. He then attempted to make the death look like a suicide by tying a saree to her neck and the ceiling fan before fleeing the house.The house owner noticed her dead and alerted police. Parappana Agrahara police registered an unnatural death report. The post-mortem report, however, stated, “The cause of death is asphyxia, and violent asphyxia due to smothering cannot be ruled out.”
