Vadodara: In a crackdown on quackery in Gujarat, Anand police on Saturday arrested a 58-year-old man who allegedly posed as a doctor and treated patients for over two decades, exposing a long-running illegal medical practice that put public health at risk.Anand police’s local crime branch (LCB) carried out the operation following directions from senior police officials to act against unqualified medical practitioners.During surveillance and verification, police identified Nitin Dahya Parmar, a resident of Borsad, who was allegedly running a medical practice from his residence and presenting himself as a doctor.A team of LCB officials, accompanied by a govt medical officer, raided the premises. Parmar failed to produce a valid registration certificate from the Gujarat Medical Council, which is mandatory for practising medicine.Investigators said that despite lacking qualifications and registration, he had been examining patients, prescribing medicines and offering treatment. A search of his premises led to the seizure of medicines and related materials used in the practice.Police also arrested Ghanshyam Maheshwari, a resident of Anand, who allegedly supplied medicines to Parmar.Officials seized medicines and medical materials worth Rs 3,595, along with Rs 955 in cash, for a total seizure value of about Rs 4,550.A case was registered at Anand Rural police station under Sections 30 and 35 of the Gujarat Medical Practice Act, 1963. Police are now probing the extent of the accused’s activities and whether others were involved.
