Gurgaon: A man from Faridabad’s Sanjay Colony was arrested on Monday for treating patients without a valid medical degree.An FIR has been registered against the accused, Nandkeshwar, at the Mujesar police station, an officer said.The arrest was made after Dr Rajesh Kumar, a senior medical officer (SMO) of Polyclinic Sector 55, lodged a complaint about an alleged quack operating from Sanjay Colony. Acting on the complaint, a joint team of officials from the health department and drugs control officials raided a local clinic at the 33 Feet Road and found the accused did not have any recognised medical qualification.When officials sought proof of his educational qualifications and registration as a medical practitioner, he showed an electro homeopathy certificate, which is not recognised by the govt.The team seized 23 varieties of medicines, medical equipment and other materials from the clinic under sections 125 and 318 of the BNS and Section 34 of the National Medical Commission Act, for further legal proceedings.A large stock of 18 types of allopathic medicines was also recovered from a bed box in the accused’s residence. Nandkeshwar could not produce any valid drug licence or records related to the purchase or sale of these medicines either.The drugs were seized under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act through Form 16 and produced before the court of the chief judicial magistrate, which issued custody orders. Officials said further legal action will follow after completion of procedural formalities.Haryana food and drug administration commissioner Dr Manoj Yadav and state drugs controller Ripan Mehta have directed strict enforcement of the drugs act and related rules to curb illegal medical practice.
