New Delhi: Public Works Department (PWD) is set to conduct fire and electrical safety audits at several govt hospitals in southwest Delhi to strengthen critical healthcare infrastructure.Facilities identified so far include Guru Gobind Singh Government Hospital in Raghubir Nagar, Acharya Shree Bhikshu Government Hospital in Moti Nagar, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Hospital and its residential complex in Hari Nagar, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Hospital in Patel Nagar, Pt Madan Mohan Malviya Hospital in Malviya Nagar, Dr BR Sur Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital in Nanakpura, Ambedkar Nagar Hospital and Nehru Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital in Defence Colony, besides several dispensaries and allied units.The electrical safety audit will assess the safety, reliability and compliance of installations, focusing on identifying hazards and evaluating systems against national benchmarks such as the Indian Electricity Rules, Central Electricity Authority regulations and the National Building Code.It will include inspections of electrical panels, switchgear, transformers, diesel generator sets, wiring, earthing networks and load distribution, along with thermal imaging to detect overheating. Compliance documents, maintenance records and safety protocols will also be reviewed to identify potential gaps.The fire safety audit will examine potential fire hazards, evaluate existing prevention and suppression systems, and recommend improvements in line with applicable codes. This will cover inspection of fire extinguishers, hydrants, alarms, evacuation routes, passive fire protection systems and emergency response preparedness, as well as compliance with NBC and Indian Standards.The exercise will also include a compliance review of fire no-objection certificate status, implementation of past audit recommendations, adequacy of signage and escape route mapping.
