Russian President Vladimir Putin met with military commanders and reviewed the latest developments in the Ukraine war, claiming Russian forces had captured around 6,500 square kilometres of territory and 310 settlements since the beginning of 2026.
Putin claimed that Russia had full control of the Luhansk People’s Republic, while just over 10% of Donetsk remained outside Russian control. He also said Russian forces were continuing efforts to establish a security zone along Russia’s border regions and outlined military priorities for the autumn-winter period.
These territorial figures reflect Putin’s claims and have not been independently verified here.
