Dibrugarh: Union minister for petroleum and natural gas Hardeep Singh Puri visited Duliajan on Sunday, where he toured key installations of Oil India Limited (OIL), including the company’s virtual-reality (VR) centre and one of the oldest continuously producing oil wells in the country.Duliajan, located in Dibrugarh district, serves as the field headquarters of OIL and has been at the centre of India’s upstream oil and gas operations for over six decades.During his visit, Puri toured Kalpalok, OIL’s state-of-the-art VR centre, which he described as a critical research, development and analytical hub powered by advanced artificial intelligence and digital technologies. The centre generates a three-dimensional, computer-simulated environment that allows engineers and geologists to visualise and analyse complex sub-surface data in ways that conventional two-dimensional interpretation techniques cannot match.“Judicious and intensive use of such cutting-edge AI solutions and advanced technologies will provide momentum to India’s efforts to increase the domestic production of hydrocarbons as we progress on our quest to achieve energy security,” Puri said after the visit. The minister also visited one of the country’s oldest oil wells, located near Duliajan’s lush tea estates. The well has been continuously producing oil for over six decades and stands as a symbol of OIL’s long and significant contribution to India’s energy landscape.“This well, which is located near the lush tea estates of Assam, has been continuously producing oil for the last six decades. It is a remarkable reflection of the exemplary journey of OIL and its contribution to India’s quest for energy security,” Puri said.“The company, which began its operations in the tea estates of Assam, is now ruling the waves in the Andaman Sea and exploring newer frontiers in the Keralam-Konkan Basin and the India-Pakistan border in Rajasthan,” he added.
