Bathinda: Congress district units staged protests against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, alleging irregularities in the deletion of names from electoral rolls during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). Party functionaries also burnt effigies of the CEC and demanded his resignation.Protests were held in Bathinda, Mansa and Barnala districts, where Congress workers raised concerns over the manner in which the SIR exercise was conducted.Party functionaries alleged that a large number of names were deleted from the electoral rolls during the exercise and that undue conditions were imposed for enrolment of new voters through Form 6. They claimed these actions raised questions over the functioning of the Election Commission and demanded an inquiry into the alleged irregularities.
