Chandigarh: Punjab BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon on Sunday slammed Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal for “turning the National Human Rights Commission’s notice regarding safety issues involving buses operating under the chief minister’s pilgrimage scheme into a political issue”.In a written statement, Dhillon said, “The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) had taken action against 1,000 buses across the country over the last year due to incidents of fires involving sleeper buses. Such incidents have been occurring repeatedly, resulting in loss of lives. Linking this action exclusively to Punjab is nothing but an outright falsehood.”Dhillon claimed that in Jan 2026, the Punjab govt had informed the NHRC that no sleeper buses were registered in Punjab. “This means that all the buses operating under the pilgrimage scheme in Punjab are private buses brought in from other states,” he said.He asked Kejriwal to clarify whether the scheme in Delhi was discontinued after the BJP formed the govt there. On Saturday, AAP slammed the BJP-led Centre, alleging that the NHRC had inspected the “super deluxe buses” ferrying pilgrims under the Punjab govt’s Mukh Mantri Tirath Yatra scheme.
