Pune: Pune city crime branch arrested a 24-year-old man from Katraj, seizing opium worth Rs36 lakh during an operation conducted at Ambegaon Pathar around 2.15pm on Friday.Police registered a case against the accused with the Ambegaon police station. In addition to the contraband, the police seized a car and a mobile phone collectively worth Rs4 lakh, taking the total value to Rs40 lakh.Preliminary investigations revealed that the accused had allegedly procured the opium from Rajasthan.Inspector Jeevan Mane and his team from the Anti-Narcotics Cell received information about the contraband in the possession of the driver. Police laid down a trap and intercepted the car. “We have arrested the man identified as Devendrasingh Premsingh Shaktawat of Chittorgarh in Rajasthan. He stays in the Katraj area and runs three handcarts of ice cream,” Mane said.“He wanted to earn quick money and bought the opium from his native to sell in Pune. We are trying to locate his customers. For further probe, we have handed over Shaktawat to the Ambegaon police station,” he said.
