Chandigarh: Panjab University Tuesday evicted a juice and shake shop from the Student Centre market over pending rent dues of around Rs 10 lakh.The action was carried out by university security staff in the presence of chief of university security Vikram Singh following directions from the estate department. The premises were sealed and taken over by the university after repeated notices failed to secure payment.“The tenant used to pay rent intermittently, but the dues kept accumulating. Notices were also issued,” Singh said.The tenant’s belongings inside the shop have been sealed. Singh said they would be released after payment of the outstanding amount. If the dues remain unpaid, the material will be shifted to a university store.
