Mysuru: The proposed peripheral ring road (PRR) project in Mysuru remains uncertain, with no progress even three years after its announcement. The state govt had earlier directed the Mysuru Development Authority (MDA) to execute the project under a public-private partnership (PPP) model. However, MDA submitted a proposal seeking govt funding rather than private participation. The govt has now rejected this proposal and asked MDA to submit a fresh plan, raising doubts over the project’s implementation timeline. The 200-foot-wide PRR, spanning 105.5km, is intended to support planned urban growth and ease traffic pressure on the existing 43-km outer ring road. The delay has triggered concerns over infrastructure planning and execution in the city. The state govt announced the PRR in Budget 2024, citing the need to support the planned growth of Mysuru after Bengaluru, reduce congestion on the outer ring road and facilitate interstate traffic. The PRR is planned about 5km away from the existing outer ring road.According to MDA’s plan, the PRR will have a six-lane carriageway (3+3), with 2+2 service roads on either side. The authority also proposed industrial clusters for IT and BT companies, education and health, hardware and software units, logistics hubs, truck terminals, commercial sheds, buffer zones, treatment plants, pharmaceutical and apparel clusters, and other services along the corridor. Townships were planned on 27,500 acres.Speaking to TOI, MDA in-charge commissioner KR Rakshith said the project was delayed due to confusion over funding, delays in identifying agencies to prepare the detailed project report (DPR), and delays in obtaining approvals from the MDA council body and the govt. “But now all such issues are sorted out,” he claimed.Rakshith said MDA has earmarked Rs 7.5 crore for the DPR and will submit a fresh proposal after selecting one of the four agencies that applied. “The state govt will decide about funding issues once DPR is ready for the PRR project,” he said.MDA assistant executive engineer Bettaswamy said officials have begun initial preparations to identify land for the project.
