Patna: Protests over the alleged molestation and assault of a minor schoolgirl in Jamui and circulation of a video of the incident were held in Jamui and Patna on Tuesday with student and opposition outfits demanding accountability, stronger security for girls and action against those involved.In Jamui, ABVP, the student wing of the BJP, took out a march through major roads and intersections. The protesters demanded a detailed probe to identify everyone involved in the incident and circulation of the video, while stressing that the minor’s identity and privacy must be protected.ABVP student Rita Kumari sought increased police patrolling around schools, colleges and coaching centres, particularly on routes used by students during morning and evening hours. Another protester, Babita Kumari, called for preventive policing and identification of vulnerable stretches.In Patna, Youth Congress workers led by Bittu Yadav staged a demonstration at Kargil Chowk, demanding CM Samrat Choudhary’s resignation. NSUI activists joined the protest, carrying posters with slogans including “Unsafe Streets, Silent System” and “Protect Women From BJP-RSS”.Reminding Samrat of his earlier statement on women’s safety, Yadav said, “Now, following the Jamui incident, the people of Bihar are asking — when will that morning arrive, and when will Samrat Choudhary resign?”Members of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), the youth wing of the CPI(M), also marched and burnt the CM’s effigy near Patna Junction. They alleged deterioration in law and order and raised concerns over the safety of schoolgirls.The All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) demanded strict action against all accused under the POCSO Act, speedy trials, security and adequate compensation for the victim, and stronger directions to the police administration.The outfits said they would continue raising the issue until action was taken and security arrangements for girls were strengthened.
