Bengaluru: A property row escalated into alleged vandalism and an attempt by a woman and her family to torch the house of her brother at Byrasandra in south Bengaluru, police said Monday.Ashwini S, 35, a resident of 9th Cross, stated in a complaint to police that she and her husband, Umesh, stay with their children on the ground floor of a four-storey building. She said the property belonged to Umesh’s father and was now registered in the name of Umesh, who later constructed the upper floors. Umesh’s elder sister, Meenakshi, stays in a nearby area along with her family. Umesh and her sister have a civil dispute case pending in court over the property.Ashwini told police that Meenakshi, along with her husband and children, entered the building premises and vandalised their house, smashing doors and windows. They also destroyed CCTV cameras and Meenakshi allegedly abused them with foul language and issued threats.Ashwini further accused her sister-in-law of pouring petrol all over the house and threatening to set it ablaze. Ashwini said she immediately called police helpline 112, after which Hoysala station police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. An officer said the family often fights over the matter. CCTV footage from before the cameras were damaged is available, he added.
