The signboard, installed on a public road outside the Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) campus, was allegedly put up without authorisation, according to the activists.

BENGALURU: An FIR has been registered against members of a pro-Kannada organisation for allegedly vandalising a Hindi signboard at BEL Circle in Bengaluru while protesting against what they described as the “imposition of Hindi”, police said on Wednesday.The incident took place on Tuesday evening, according to news agency PTI.The signboard, installed on a public road outside the Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) campus, was allegedly put up without authorisation, according to the activists.Police said members of the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike dismantled the signboard during the protest and maintained that they would continue to oppose “attempts to promote” Hindi in Karnataka.The situation was later brought under control after police intervention.“We have taken action and registered a case against the protesters under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for rioting, destruction of public property, and other offences. Further investigation is underway,” a senior police officer said.
