Jaisalmer: President Draupadi Murmu arrived in Jaisalmer Thursday late evening for a two-day visit in which she will witness the ‘Vayu Shakti-2026′ programme at the Pokhran Field Firing Range Friday.Murmu will fly in the indigenous Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) “Prachand” at the Jaisalmer Air Force Station Friday morning, becoming the first Indian President to serve as co-pilot of a combat helicopter in the border airspace of Jaisalmer. The 25-minute sortie will include an aerial review of the city and adjoining areas amid tight security arrangements.In her capacity as Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, she will receive a detailed briefing before take-off. After landing, she is scheduled to interact with officers and personnel at the station and participate in a group photograph. Later in the day, she will attend Vayu Shakti as the chief guest. The event, described as the Indian Air Force’s largest firepower demonstration, will be held in the presence of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Governor Haribhau Bagde, Chief Minister Bhajan Lal, the Union Civil Aviation Minister, the chiefs of the Army, Navy and Air Force, and defence attachés from friendly nations. Air Force Deputy Chief Air Marshal Nagesh Kapoor said the exercise will involve around 12,000 kg of ammunition. As many as 77 fighter aircraft and 43 helicopters have been assigned for firing and operational roles, showcasing the Air Force’s capability to respond effectively on multiple fronts simultaneously. SP Abhishek Shivhare said extensive security measures, including a no-fly zone and traffic diversions, have been enforced across Jaisalmer for the President’s visit.
