Buxar: On World Heritage Day, district magistrate Sahila visited Dumraon and called for urgent preservation of the region’s historical heritage and rare manuscripts under the Gyan Bharatam Mission. She said the mission, announced in the Union Budget 2025-26, seeks to revive India’s knowledge tradition through its manuscript legacy.Describing it as a national initiative, she said efforts are underway to digitise, preserve and make manuscripts accessible to the public. She appealed to residents to upload ancient documents in their possession to the Gyan Bharatam portal.During the visit, local surveyors displayed several old documents. A rare handwritten manuscript presented by teacher Purnanand Mishra drew special attention. Believed to be 100 to 150 years old, it deals with Tantra, astrology and mantra shastra, and mentions Bisa or Chautisa Yantra, traditional numerical instruments linked to magical squares. Mishra said the manuscript appears to have served as a guide for scholars and practitioners. Written on handmade paper with natural ink, it uses Braj Hindi and Devanagari script. The DM termed it historically and spiritually significant and ordered its preservation and digitisation.
