Ranchi: Police will prepare detailed profiles of active and former criminals, identify gangs and monitor their activities as part of a preventive policing strategy aimed at curbing crime.Ranchi senior superintendent of police (SSP) Rakesh Ranjan on Wednesday, during a video conference, directed all police station in-charges and senior officials to initiate criminal profiling based on two criteria.SSP Ranjan said, “Police will identify criminals and gangs that remained active over the past 10-15 years but are currently inactive, particularly those considered likely to return to criminal activities. Their records will be updated, and activities will be periodically verified.”Detailed profiles of active offenders involved in extortion, murder, assault, drug trade, harassment, and various crimes will also be maintained, he said.The police will additionally identify young people whose activities indicate a criminal tendency, especially having an objectionable social media presence.“Their information will be maintained with reference to the respective police station’s bad character register, while monitoring of publicly available social media activity will be undertaken as per law. The profiles will be regularly updated, and action will be taken on information about potential criminal activity,” the SSP said.
