Panaji: FRRO Goa deported nine foreign nationals in May 2026 so far, while a fresh enforcement drive in Mandrem on Thursday detected seven more overstaying foreign nationals.Since Jan, 27 overstaying foreign nationals of various nationalities have left the country.During the Mandrem drive, FRRO Goa detected five Russian nationals, one Ukrainian national and one South African national overstaying in the country. Necessary legal action has been initiated against them.“The nine foreign nationals deported this month include five Ugandan nationals, three Russian nationals and one Nigerian national, following sustained legal and administrative action. Proposals for blacklisting under appropriate categories have also been initiated,” SP FRRO Arshi Aadil said.In 2025, FRRO Goa deported or facilitated the exit of 120 overstaying foreign nationals, including 29 Bangladeshi nationals, Aadil said.“FRRO remains committed to firm and lawful action against overstaying foreign nationals, while safeguarding the interests of genuine and law-abiding foreign nationals visiting Goa,” she said.FRRO also advised all accommodation providers to ensure timely submission of C-Forms/Form III for foreign nationals staying at their premises. Calangute: Deepika Redkar, wife of former Arpora-Nagoa sarpanch Roshan Redkar who was disqualified following the Birch by Romeo Lane tragedy in Dec last year, was elected unopposed in the byelection for ward three of the Arpora-Nagoa panchayat on Friday.The seat had fallen vacant after the directorate of panchayats disqualified Roshan for his alleged lapses that reportedly led to the death of 25. He was barred from holding any post in a panchayat for five years.Roshan was later arrested by the investigating agency for his alleged role in the case. Initially, he had claimed that the club continued to operate despite the panchayat ordering that the illegal establishment be sealed, and alleged that other authorities were at fault.In a post on social media platforms, Roshan thanked the people of Dias Vaddo and Diwan Bhatti.Panaji: Several parts of Goa witnessed pre-monsoon showers on Friday, bringing respite from the persistent summer heat and humidity that gripped the state over the past several days.The showers led to a marginal drop in daytime temperatures in Panaji, where the maximum temperature settled at 33.4°C on Friday, compared to 36.2°C recorded a day earlier. According to observational data released by the meteorological department, the temperature in Panaji remained 0.5°C below normal. Humidity levels also remained high across the coastal state. Relative humidity was recorded at 75% in Panaji.The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday announced that the southwest monsoon is likely to set in over Kerala on May 26, with a model error margin of plus or minus four days.Meteorologist M R Ramesh Kumar expressed optimism about the upcoming rainy season for Goa, stating that the state is likely to receive normal monsoon rainfall this year. “The onset of monsoon over Goa can be really tricky, as the monsoon does not progress linearly. It can slow down and stay at Karwar or it can advance over the entire west coast of India in a couple of days, depending on the surrounding synoptic conditions,” he said.Kumar further said that climatologically, monsoon is expected to reach Goa around June 5.According to the weather observations recorded on May 15, the minimum temperature in Panaji stood at 26.4°C, marginally below normal by 0.1°C.
