Prayagraj: Pratapgarh district jail, located in a crime-prone belt of eastern UP, has secured three ISO certifications for introducing a series of out-of-the-box reformatory changes and quality-focused initiatives over the past two years.The certifications were given in three categories–ISO 45001: 2018 for occupational health & safety management; ISO 9001:2015 for quality management system and ISO 14001: 2015 for environmental management system. Senior jail superintendent, Rishabh Dwivedi, told TOI that the Quality Research Organisation, Delhi, has been analysing and supervising the quality works and projects in the jail for the past two years. “In the past two years, apart from maintaining 263 trees, jail authorities have also planted over 300 saplings. Cleanliness campaign was being carried out 24×7 inside jail campus, including barracks,” he added. Dwivedi further said the jail authorities have coordinated with nagar palika authorities for proper disposal of waste and Pratapgarh district jail was first in the state which launched the facility of biomedical disposal system. Dwivedi claimed that: “A quality management system and discipline are being adhered to in the prison. Special care is being taken to protect the human rights of all inmates. Jail authorities with the help of Shiv Nadar Foundation have also managed to impart three-month educational programmes and training to inmates to make them literate. A health ATM was also set up on jail hospital premises for better medical facilities.” Besides, computer and other professional training is also being provided. “Different remedial programmes are being run for the moral and mental uplift of prisoners. Cleanliness and beautification of the area are being done regularly. Moreover, as many as 87 CCTVs have been installed to maintain round-the-clock surveillance and inmates of all religions are holding special prayers. All documents of the prison have been digitised and the details of all inmates are being fed in e-prison software,” he said. The prison has also installed automatic machines for flour kneading and baking chapatis. The FSSAI has granted the jail its Eat Right Campus 4-Star Full Compliance certificate for food quality. It has also issued a licence for manufacturing amlakriti products from amla.
