Hisar: A team from the electricity department, conducting a drive against power theft, was allegedly attacked in Kajla village under the Agroha police station area of Hisar district.Power department employees on Sunday said the team received information that electricity was being illegally drawn by hooking wires to the main supply line in a hamlet located in the fields of Kajla village. Acting on the tip-off, junior engineers Deshraj and Subhash, along with linesman Satpal from the Agroha subdivision, reached the spot for inspection.The officials said they found the main power line illegally tapped and electricity being stolen openly. When the team began taking action to disconnect the illegal connection, some people present at the site started protesting. The situation soon escalated into a scuffle, and attempts were reportedly made to attack the employees with sharp-edged weapons. However, the staff managed to escape without injury, they added.The employees alleged that they were obstructed from performing their official duties and were misbehaved with during the incident. A written complaint was later submitted at Agroha police station, seeking strict action against those involved. The police said an investigation had been initiated.Following the incident, members of the All Haryana Power Corporation Workers Union held a gate meeting at the Agroha electricity office on Saturday to protest the attack. Block president Umesh Bora, senior vice-president Om Prakash, secretary Ramesh, unit president Vijendra Poonia and treasurer Balbir Khichad, along with other employees, expressed resentment and condemned the incident.Union leaders warned that employees would refrain from conducting power theft checks if adequate protection was not provided. They further stated that if the accused were not arrested within two days, staff members would stop work, lock the office and stage a dharna outside the premises, holding the govt responsible for any disruption in services.MSID:: 128677622 413 |
