Vadodara: Politics has set family members against one another in several towns of Saurashtra, where relatives are locked in direct contests in the ongoing civic polls.In Amreli municipality, two such contests have drawn attention. In Ward 11, BJP candidate Sangita Chavda is up against her husband’s brother Bhavesh Chavda, who is contesting on an AAP ticket. In Ward 7, the contest has taken a ‘derani-jethani’ turn, with BJP’s Renuka Solanki facing her sister-in-law Kajal Solanki.A similar family face-off is unfolding in Savarkundla municipality, where sisters are competing against each other in Ward 7. Nilofer Ghori is contesting on a Congress ticket, while her sister Nazma Ghori is in the fray as an AAP candidate.These contests highlight how political rivalries are cutting across family ties, turning civic elections into closely watched personal battles in the region.
