Patna: The body of a police havildar, who was aged 50, was found in a drain near Golghar, adjacent to police lines, in the Buddha Colony police station area of Patna on Wednesday, said police.The deceased was identified as Bachcha Kumar Rao, a native of Bettiah district, who had joined the police force in 1999 and had been posted in Patna since 2025. Police reached the spot after receiving information about the body and recovered it from the drain. The body was sent to a govt hospital for the post-mortem.ASP (Law and Order) Krishna Murari Prasad said the body was found near a narrow drain located at a corner close to the police lines. He said Rao’s identity was established after police reached the spot. “Prima facie, it appears that he may have fallen into the drain and sustained injuries, which could have led to his death. Further action will be taken based on the report,” he said.Prasad said Rao’s family members had reached the spot, but no clear information had emerged from them so far about the circumstances leading to his death. “We are investigating the matter on both technical and human intelligence grounds,” he said.Rao’s wife said she had spoken to him on the phone a day before the incident and that he had not mentioned facing any problem or threat. The family was at their ancestral home in Bettiah at the time of the incident.ASI Deepak Kumar Singh, who knew Rao personally, said Rao had returned late at night after duty in the Gardanibagh area and may have gone out for a morning walk. He said Rao might have fallen into the drain while urinating.
