Gurgaon: The Crime Investigation Branch (CIB), Tauru has arrested an alleged drug smuggler and seized 1.6 kg of heroin worth around Rs 3.15 crore in the international market during a checking operation on Nalhar Road, Nuh.The accused, Wajid alias Kala of Kotla village, was travelling in a white Swift, which was also seized. Police said the contraband was packed in 30 small packets kept in a black polythene bag near the car’s handbrake.Nuh SP Arpit Jain said the CIB team, led by sub-inspector Pradeep Kumar, had received information that Wajid was involved in selling heroin and would travel from the Nalhar Medical College side towards Kotla. A police team set up a checkpoint near Lala Amarnath Colony on Nalhar Road.Around 7.20 am, the team signalled the approaching Swift to stop. Police said the driver tried to turn towards the colony road but was intercepted. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of the contraband.A case has been registered at Nuh City police station under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Police are seeking Wajid’s custodial remand for questioning.During preliminary questioning, Wajid has allegedly admitted to stealing four vehicle including a dumper, Hyva and truck, police said. The claims are being investigated.Jain said the seizure was part of the district police’s ongoing campaign against drug trafficking. During a six-day special drive from Aug 17 to 23, police registered 14 cases and arrested 23 people in the district, he said.
