Mumbai: A courier boy was arrested by the Goregaon police on Tuesday for harassing a minor schoolgirl for three months, stalking her and making inappropriate comments and threats. Police said it was a challenging task to trace the accused as his location was constantly changing. The 14-year-old victim studied at a school in Goregaon (West). On March 27, she approached the police station with her parents and complained that a courier boy had been stalking her since Christmas from her residence up to the school. He kept urging her to talk to him and threatened to harm her if she ignored him. After an FIR was registered, a Goregaon police team under the supervision of senior inspector Suryakant Kharat checked CCTVs around the school and quizzed the school staff. They found images of the courier boy on his motorcycle outside the school gate but the vehicle numberplate was unclear. The police checked footage from 70 cameras on the route taken by the motorcycle. They found images of a society where the courier boy had done a delivery on the fifth floor. The police team visited the house owner and got the courier boy’s phone number. The accused was identified as Chandan Paswan (28). From the telecom service provider, the police got Paswan’s registered address. But it turned out that he used to work in housekeeping at the address in the past and no longer lived there. Police also inquired with a food delivery app for whom he had made deliveries but turned out he had quit the job. For two days, police teams constantly tracked his location which kept changing as he worked as a courier boy. On March 30, the police were able to track his current employer — a quick delivery service. They told investigators that he was delivering an order from Goregaon East to Bandra. Police laid a trap at Bandra and apprehended him early on Tuesday.
