Anantnag, Jun 28: As part of comprehensive security preparedness for the forthcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra (SANJY-2026), police in Anantnag conducted a series of mock drills simulating grenade attack, sniper attack, and fidayeen attack scenarios at Aishmuqam, Langabal Pahalgam, and Nunwan Base Camp.
The drills were aimed at evaluating the preparedness, coordination, and swift response of security agencies in handling emergency situations, a police spokesperson said.
The exercise at Grend Aishmuqam involved a simulated grenade attack, followed by immediate area sanitisation, evacuation of civilians, casualty management, traffic regulation, cordoning of the affected area, and search operations. Personnel from Police, CRPF, SDRF, Fire & Emergency Services, Health Department, and other allied agencies actively participated, demonstrating seamless inter-agency coordination and adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
The mock drill at Langabal, Pahalgam, was designed to evaluate the effectiveness of emergency response protocols, inter-agency coordination, and tactical decision-making in the event of a hostile attack. Upon activation of the simulated threat, security personnel swiftly secured the area, neutralised the situation through coordinated tactical measures, facilitated safe evacuation of civilians, managed simulated casualties, and carried out area domination and search operations in accordance with established SOPs.
The high-intensity mock drill at Nunwan Base Camp simulated a fidayeen attack scenario, prompting an immediate activation of the emergency response mechanism. Security forces swiftly secured the base camp, isolated the affected area, neutralised the simulated threat through coordinated tactical action, evacuated pilgrims and civilians to designated safe zones, provided prompt medical assistance to simulated casualties, and carried out systematic search and sanitisation operations.
Police said they remain steadfast in their commitment to providing a secure and peaceful environment for pilgrims and the general public during SANJY-2026.
“Regular mock drills and scenario-based exercises are conducted to maintain the highest level of operational preparedness and ensure a swift, coordinated, and effective response to any security contingency,” the spokesperson said, adding that the exercises witnessed active participation of Police, CRPF, SDRF, Health Department, Fire & Emergency Services, and other stakeholder agencies, demonstrating a high degree of interoperability and coordinated response under simulated emergency conditions.
