Times News NetworkKanpur: Unnao police have busted a notorious chain-snatching gang active in the area and arrested two miscreants in an encounter late on Friday night.During the police exchange of fire in this operation, one miscreant was injured after being shot in the leg and has been admitted to the district hospital for treatment. Police have recovered from their possession a recently looted chain, another chain looted from Lucknow, illegal arms, and the motorcycle used in the crime.On the morning of July 26, bike-borne miscreants snatched a chain from a woman who was walking in a park located in Awas Vikas in the Dahi police station area. Following the incident, a case was registered at Dahi police station against unidentified miscreants on the complaint of the victim.The SP had formed joint teams of SOG, surveillance, and local police and begun the search for the robbers. During the investigation, the police team received information from an informer that the miscreants involved in the robbery were roaming with the intention of committing another crime. Acting on the tip-off, the police team began checking suspicious vehicles near Basti Kheda turn.Meanwhile, two suspects were seen approaching on a motorcycle from the direction of Purwa Mod. When the police signalled them to stop, seeing themselves surrounded, they opened fire on the police team and tried to flee. In response to the firing, the police team also fired in self-defence. In the retaliatory action by police, one miscreant was shot in the leg and fell along with the bike, while his other accomplice was surrounded and nabbed on the spot.The injured miscreant was identified as Aslam Tanda alias Tanda, 35, and the other accused who was caught has been identified as Mohammad Atiq.
