Patna: With only two days left before the Sept 30 deadline for penalty-free property tax payment, Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) recorded its highest single-day collection of this financial year on Monday, receiving more than Rs 1.11 crore from property owners.The civic body also brought nearly 300 properties into the tax net through assessment and reassessment during its property tax enhancement drive.The Patliputra circle recorded the highest collection at around Rs 25.02 lakh from 233 properties, followed by New Capital with Rs 24.10 lakh from 238 properties. Azimabad received around Rs 20.48 lakh from 243 properties, while Bankipore, Kankarbagh and Patna City recorded collections of Rs 19.79 lakh, Rs 16.16 lakh and Rs 5.45 lakh, respectively.The drive also resulted in tax assessments for 229 properties across the six circles. Another 51 property owners completed the process of self-reassessment. During field verification, discrepancies were found in the earlier tax assessments of 13 properties. The civic body subsequently imposed penalties and reassessed the taxes on these properties.PMC officials said the exercise was aimed at widening the property tax base and improving revenue collection. The civic body had appealed to property owners to clear their dues by Sept 30 to avoid a monthly penalty of 1.5% applicable after the deadline.
