Pune: The civic body’s standing committee has decided to draft a comprehensive standard operating procedure (SOP) for tanker supply to assist in the better management of water tankers.“With the continuous rise in the demand for water tankers, several serious issues have emerged. They include overcharging for water in various areas, delays in delivery, a lack of GPS systems, accidents, complaints regarding water quality, and a lack of regulation. It is essential to establish a uniform and effective operational procedure considering these factors,” said Shrinath Bhimale, chairman of the committee. As per the proposal, the SOP should include publishing an authorised rate card, displaying rate boards on every tanker, installing GPS in all tankers, providing a mobile app-based tracking facility, implementing a transparent booking system via online platforms and helplines, and enforcing the “first come, first served” principle.Instructions were also given to mandate safety measures, such as setting speed limits, implementing special regulations in school and hospital zones, regular driver training, medical check-ups, alcohol and drug testing, and making reflective strips, safety lights, blind-spot mirrors, reverse cameras and alarm systems compulsory. In other decisions, the committee approved a consultant for roads on Solapur Road, and asked the civic administration to improve the online complaint redressal system to address public complaints.Seeking decentralisation of the system of providing birth and death certificates, members of the committee said work on corrections in the certificates had been stalled for the last month, causing significant distress to citizens. A special officer will be appointed at each regional office to hear citizens’ grievances between 11am and 1pm, and provide necessary guidance.PMC approved a proposal to appoint a project management consultant for the construction of three new bridges, which are vital for traffic and connectivity in the Wanowrie area. These bridges have been planned from Kalubai Temple to Abhyudaya Society in Wanowrie (ward no. 25), Wanowrie Tadimalla, and the Bhairoba Nalla area.Another consultant was approved for Pune-Solapur Road from the Cantonment Office to Bhairoba Nalla, including the development of Shivarkar Main Road. This project involves the resurfacing of the old and damaged Pune-Solapur Road, modernisation of the road including stormwater drains, and the development of the main Shivarkar Road.Funds were also approved for repair and maintenance of the building of civic headquarters and auditorium theatre in Kothrud.
