Pune: PMC is scheduled to hold a crucial coordination meeting next week with senior officials from the railways and the ministry of defence to discuss the handover of vital land parcels required to construct high capacity mass transit route (HCMTR) and the inner ring road projects, both of which are designed to ease severe traffic congestion across the city.The proposed HCMTR is a 24-metre-wide elevated inner ring road stretching roughly 43 km through various central city neighborhoods. Complementing it, the proposed 65-metre-wide inner ring road will cover 83 km, running primarily through peripheral areas to streamline vehicular movement across Pune’s rapidly developing outskirts.Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed the civic administration to treat both multi-crore transit corridors as high-priority tasks. In response, PMC has deployed dedicated teams to fast-track preliminary land requirement proposals ahead of the inter-departmental talks. Acquiring the necessary clear zones remains an active challenge. Roughly 22 hectares of govt, forest, and defence land must be cleared for the HCMTR loop alone. “We are proactively pushing these discussions with central govt agencies to avoid bureaucratic hurdles or delays in taking possession of these critical land parcels,” a senior Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) official said.Beyond coordinating with central authorities, PMC met on Friday with Maha Metro to align infrastructure planning. Because the planned lines for the Metro extension and the HCMTR cross paths at approximately eight different city intersections, careful structural integration is required. Notably, along Sinhagad Road, both projects are slated to share a common stretch.“We reviewed the overlapping alignments extensively with metro engineers,” a PMC official added. “Since both transport grids are elevated, we have agreed to jointly design the underlying viaducts and support pillars to save space, though actual construction and project execution will be handled independently. We are currently auditing the rest of the city map to identify any other potential points of intersection.”According to Maha Metro officials, full geometric configurations for all newly proposed corridors have been presented to PMC. Work is currently underway to finalise the detailed project reports for these upcoming mass transit routes.
