Vadodara: Preparations are underway in the city ahead of PM Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit on Sep 8, with BJP planning a selective gathering at the MS University ground instead of a conventional mass public meeting.During his visit, Modi is expected to launch and lay the foundation stones for railway development projects worth more than Rs 30,000 crore and inaugurate new bridges on national highways near Vadodara. He is also expected to address the gathering at the university ground before travelling to Navsari, where he will inaugurate the BJP’s new ‘Namo Kamalam’ office.BJP city president Jayprakash Soni said the gathering would be organised through registration, with passes issued to attendees.“It will not be a conventional mass event. The audience will include professionals such as chartered accountants, teachers and doctors, among others”, Soni said.Arrangements are also being made for live streaming of the PM’s programme at multiple locations across the city and district, allowing people to watch the event from their respective areas instead of travelling to the venue. Soni added that there would be no roadshow.Preparations at the venue have already begun. Compound walls near the ground and along the likely route of the PM are being whitewashed, while arrangements are being carried out at the venue.BJP is also planning a week-long cleanliness campaign ahead of Modi’s visit. The ‘Clean Up Vadodara’ campaign will be conducted across the city from Sep 1 to 7, with cleanliness being positioned as a key theme of the PM’s visit.Incidentally, it will be Modi’s seventh visit to Gujarat in the last nine months. He last visited Vadodara on May 11, when he inaugurated the ‘Sardardham-3’ hostel, built by the Patidar community at a cost of Rs 150 crore and also took part in a roadshow.
