The scheme was not implemented during the LDF rule. To avoid confrontation, the state government formed a cabinet sub-committee to decide on the matter. The committee includes ministers from the government, including Samsudheen, but is yet to meet to discuss the implementation.
Meanwhile, the state government has received two letters from the Union Education Ministry, the second this week. In its letter, the central government has clearly asked the state government to decide on the implementation of the scheme.
The BJP is now demanding that the state government go ahead with the implementation, saying students of the state should not suffer because of the government’s decision.
Satheesan is now busy talking to allies to convince them. He is also speaking to ministers of Congress-ruled states to find out how the scheme was implemented in their states.
