“A long wait of my Malayali brothers and sisters has been fulfilled. All of you had wished for many years that the name of Kerala be changed to Keralam. Our BJP-NDA government at the Centre has approved this proposal. I can see the happiness on all your faces. This most beautiful state of India has now received the correct name and identity according to Malayali culture,” he said during his remarks at the Golden Jubilee Sammelan of Akhila Kerala Dheevara Sabha.
Centre has carried out various initiatives to strengthen the fishing community and their activities, he said, highlighting the government’s role in elevating the fishermen. Over 4,500 satellite-based transponders installed in boats to ensure safety of fishermen at sea, he added.
The hard work and potential of our fishermen community have the power to give a new impetus to the country’s economy, Modi said. “However, for decades, this large segment of society has been neglected. Previous governments never treated you with justice.”
He noted that BJP-NDA government is recognising the immense potential of the community through the lens of the immense potential of the blue economy. He said that around Rs 1,400 crore have been allocated for Kerala under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana, a policy which has enabled Kerala to rapidly progress in fisheries.
