Srinagar, Feb 28: Jammu and Kashmir scripted history by winning their maiden Ranji Trophy title, defeating Karnataka on their home turf in Hubli and marking a defining moment in the region’s sporting journey.
The victory sparked celebrations across J&K, with political leaders across party lines hailing the team for their grit and unity.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the team for their first ever Ranji Trophy win. He said the triumph reflects remarkable discipline, passion and determination. Calling it a proud moment for the people of Jammu and Kashmir, he expressed hope that the achievement would inspire young athletes to dream big and pursue sports with commitment.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday congratulated Jammu and Kashmir cricket team for winning maiden Ranji Trophy title, calling it a moment that fills every citizen with immense pride.
“On Jammu and Kashmir winning the Ranji Trophy for the first time ever, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to every youth of the region and especially to Team J&K that scripted this history,” he said in a message posted on X.
The home minister said it is a moment that fills every citizen with immense pride and mirrors the reality that the new changes that have swept Jammu and Kashmir are the new identity of its youth.
“The mantras of peace, progress and prosperity are the driving force of the New Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha termed it J&K’s finest hour. He said emotions were beyond words as he watched the team claim the trophy. Thanking every player who carved history through sheer resolve, he said the entire Union Territory stands proud and that the players have immortalized this moment with honor.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who travelled to Hubli to witness the final, described the win as a watershed moment for J&K cricket. Announcing a Rs 2 crore cash reward for the players and support staff, he said the government will also provide job guarantees under the recently notified rules for outstanding sportspersons. He said the landmark victory has filled the region with pride and renewed inspiration.
Mehbooba Mufti called the success a rare moment of joy for the people after a long time. She said the triumph sends a strong message to those who try to divide society, as the united effort of Hindu and Muslim players once again proved that unity is the greatest strength of J&K.
Sajad Lone congratulated the team, management and the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He described the title as the end of a long wait and a proud day for the region.
The historic title has not only crowned J&K as champions of domestic cricket but also opened a new chapter of belief, opportunity and sporting ambition for the youth of the Union Territory.
