Water pipeline damages in Sector 37, Greater Noida, led to supply disruptions on Monday morning.

Noida: Water supply was disrupted in Greater Noida’s Sector 37 on Monday morning after a contractor damaged a pipeline with a JCB machine while carrying out road repairs near B-207 late Sunday night. The damaged line caused water to overflow onto the streets before supply was affected, inconveniencing residents during the ongoing Navratri festivities.“We woke up to find the water supply completely cut off,” said resident BK Mavi. “Given that it’s the festive season, many families have guests visiting, and this has complicated household chores and day-to-day activities. We urge the authorities to expedite repairs.”Sector 37, home to more than 3,400 residents, has faced water supply disruptions in the past. Residents across Greater Noida sectors, including 31, Delta 1, Alpha and Beta, have also reported pipeline leaks, low pressure and foul-smelling or contaminated water. Residents attributed the recurring problems to ageing infrastructure, with several pipelines, including those carrying Ganga water, prone to leaks and bursts.“Many pipelines, especially those supplying Ganga water, are decades old and susceptible to leaks or bursts,” said another Sector 37 resident.Residents have also raised concerns about possible contamination, pointing out that damaged water lines often run close to overflowing drains. They said such incidents not only disrupt daily routines but also raise questions about the safety and reliability of the supply. With families making festive preparations and hosting guests, residents urged Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) to ensure prompt repairs and prevent similar disruptions.“We urge GNIDA to address these infrastructural challenges to ensure consistent and safe water delivery to residents,” Mavi said.Residents said they hoped the damaged pipeline would be repaired soon and regular supply restored.
