Jhunjhunu: Yashvardhan Singh Shekhawat, petitioner in the public interest litigation (PIL) on the Yamuna water agreement, has accused the Rajasthan govt of lacking transparency over the project’s progress and the recently signed memorandum of agreement (MoA) with Haryana.Shekhawat said that during the hearing of the PIL, pending before the Rajasthan High Court since 2017, the state govt neither submitted a copy of the new MoA signed with Haryana nor filed an updated status report on the project. He alleged that if the govt was serious about implementing the project, it should have informed the court about the terms of the new MoA, the progress made so far, and the timeline for starting construction. “The govt chose not to answer any of these questions,” he said.Shekhawat also claimed that the previous memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between Rajasthan and Haryana on Feb 17, 2024, was not made public until after the Lok Sabha elections. He further alleged that another MoA was signed on June 29, 2026, but its contents have neither been made public nor placed before the High Court. “If the govt has nothing to hide, it should immediately release a certified copy of the new MoA,” he said.He demanded that the state govt make the new MoA public, submit a detailed status report before the High Court, and file an affidavit specifying when construction of the project would commence. He also urged the court to continue monitoring the case and seek periodic progress reports to prevent further delays.
