Surat: The voter list for the coming municipal elections has been put on public display at 40 locations across the city, enabling residents to verify their names and details ahead of the polling process. At the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) headquarters, the complete voters’ list for all 30 wards has been displayed for public inspection. In addition, ward-wise lists have been placed at zonal offices and other civic ward offices, with each location displaying the lists of wards falling under its jurisdiction. Officials said this was done to make access easier for voters without requiring them to visit the headquarters. Civic officials said voters who find their names missing or notice errors in personal details must submit applications for correction or change at the election and census department at the SMC head office, Tapi Bhavan. Applications received will be forwarded to the district collector’s office for further action. Election officials have been assigned to oversee the process and ensure scrutiny and follow-up are carried out in line with election procedures. The display of the voters’ list is expected to help residents identify discrepancies in time and complete the correction process before the election schedule advances further. However, no digital copy of the voters’ list has been published so far. As a result, voters must currently rely on the physical lists displayed at designated locations across the city. “No digital copy has been issued so far by the election branch of the state govt. If there is any digital copy, then the election branch will issue it,” said an SMC official.
